Reverse Mortgages

A reverse mortgage allows homeowners aged 55 to borrow against the equity they’ve built in their home, without having to sell it or make regular mortgage payments. Instead of paying the lender each month, the loan balance (plus interest) is repaid when the home is eventually sold, or when the homeowner moves out or passes away. 

For the right client, a reverse mortgage can be a powerful financial planning tool. It can help supplement retirement income, fund home renovations, cover healthcare or long-term care costs, or provide a source of tax-free cash without disrupting other investments or requiring the sale of a cherished home. Because there are no required monthly payments, it can also ease cash-flow pressure for retirees living on a fixed income. 

Only two banks currently dominate the reverse mortgage market in Canada. If you approach your regular bank or credit union directly, they’ll typically refer you to just one of them. Through Be Sure Financial Inc., we can introduce you to both, giving you the ability to compare terms and choose the option that genuinely works best for you.

As with any lending product, a reverse mortgage isn’t the right fit for every client. Interest accrues over time and reduces the equity available to your estate, so it’s worth discussing your full financial picture with us before moving forward.
